Thursday, December 24, 2009

Heading out the door to an annual Christmas Eve party.

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

Best wife ever. I'm working late (at home, where I work) and she's bringing me Timbits.

Tuesday, December 15, 2009

Tonight is going to get crazy! I'll be doing my part for the soldiers. Those demo men need more than a toothpick and plate to put us down.

Sunday, December 13, 2009

wanting to contribute to the soldiers, but laughing my butt off to cause I'm a scout. #tf2

Friday, December 11, 2009

Putting on my helmet and doing my part to fight for the side of #Soldier in the Demo-Soldier war #tf2

Sunday, December 06, 2009 is looking better and better. I would love to put some time into game dev again, soon.

Saturday, December 05, 2009

Fixed my downed PC. Swapped out the power supply with an older and almost incompatible PSU. Will be buying a new PSU soon.

Wednesday, December 02, 2009

Wrapping my head around "Ant". Also compiling an .exe from a .jar while inside Linux... well, trying to at least. Head, meet desk.

Monday, November 30, 2009

Looking forward to a Chili dinner with some family tonight.

Heading out for Grandma's birthday party. It'll be wild.
I woke up just in time. 1 minute until the Steam sales switch over.

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

What's this? A home for something I've espoused about quite a bit? My thumbs go up. Up in more espousiness.
w000000t! I'm feeling good. Just finished one-heck-of-a-task. Might still have a bug or two to squash, but it's functional :)

Monday, November 23, 2009

Watching #LRR sing The Darkness' "I believe in a thing called love" for #DesertBus of Hope.

Friday, November 20, 2009

I'm disappointed "Rainslick Precipice" hasn't been on sale in recent memory. Episode Two is already over a year old.
Done lunching. PC is set up and working properly with Ubuntu 9.10 and I've re-configured my Firefox. Next time I shouldn't have to do this.
Everything backed up, I'm removing my Ubuntu 9.04 and 8.10 partitions and installing 9.10 in their place.

Monday, November 16, 2009

When the chess game is over, the king and the pawn go in the same box. Dungeon was a fun experience.

Sunday, November 15, 2009

Finished the main quest of Torchlight in 12 hours as a level 41 Warrior. That was fun.
I just read a nice article about Indie Games and their potential future.

Thursday, November 12, 2009

The Overlord Complete Pack (1, 2, & Raising Hell) at 75% off ($8.75)? I'm there! Steam ftw.

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

Just watched "Orphan". It was predictable, but still a good movie.
Making a run for Tim Hortons. I need a caffeine and timbit fix.

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Rocking even more Java SWT programming. This is a nice breather from web development.

Monday, November 09, 2009

Going crazy with Eclipse and SWT. When I click my app tray icon, it displays. Now if I can get it to display only on Double-Click...

Sunday, November 08, 2009

Going on an "I own it" spree at so they can stop recommending books I own and start recommending awesome books I don't.

Wednesday, November 04, 2009

Reading a great article at Lost Garden re: Testosterone in gameplay

Sunday, November 01, 2009

Resisting the urge to start a new project. Or to buy a new game. November is going to be a very busy month.

Saturday, October 31, 2009

4 groups of kids so far, I'm handing out the cavities at record pace. "Take what you like" has been half the bowl so far.

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Whoop whoop! I just won "dinner and a movie" on the radio. Hello, Rogers movie rental and Little Ceasars Pizza.
Getting a whole lot of grunt work out of the way. 170-something instances of closing a database connection on try-catch-finally exception.

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

What a lucky day! I just got an ABS Mechanical Keyboard in the mail. Thanks, @GameXpo and @gdevnet
Rocking the java game programming with Beer Bottle Rocket Man:

More Pomplamoose goodness: (1st half music, 2nd half show info)

Thursday, October 22, 2009

Watching "Night of the Living Dead". It's in the public domain, so you can download it, too.

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Just as I'm shopping around for a laptop, my old laptop (5 years) decided to repeatedly lose power while plugged into the wall.

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

I have a love affair with Steam. It's what I imagine shoe shopping is for women. Steam prints money $5 at a time (when I give it to them).
Let's give this "productive day" thing a go again. Distractions are put away. Let's write this login page.

Monday, October 19, 2009

Just spent half an hour reading section 43 of the Canada Criminal Code. Is spanking a child illegal? No:
w00t w00t! I've just been informed I'm a lucky winner of a GameX prize.

Sunday, October 18, 2009

Did some work today. Currently playing Neverwinter Nights. I never did finish that, back in the day. Half way through chapter 2 (of 4?).

Saturday, October 17, 2009

Another article: Resources for the Cheap-Ass Game Developer.
New Article: VirtualBox Network with WinXP Guest in Ubuntu Host Quite the puzzle when it doesn't work.
Just watched Trick 'R Treat. Great movie. I'd watch it every year. Like "The Grinch" but for Hallowe'en.
It's "living room re-arrangement day" in our house, today. That translates to "make room for your stuff in your office day", too :-D

Friday, October 16, 2009

I shut off all distractions this morning and I got so much work done by 3pm. I wonder if it was a fluke... Yeah. A fluke.
Heading out to visit my Dad. Bringing the obligatory pizza (and maybe beer).

Thursday, October 15, 2009

Oooooh. I really want Dragon Age: Origins. Just finished reading the novel tonight. Steam and D2D have the pre-order up starting today.

Wednesday, October 14, 2009

Caught in the stumbledupon trap! Not productive!!!
Kicking butt and chewing bubble gum at work. And I'm all out of bubble gum... lame throwback to the 90s and Duke Nukem.

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

The deadline for Beer Bottle Rocket Man is getting closer. So is the finished product. Yeah.
The internet is awesome today. The DragonAge character creator is available:
Happy Birthday, World of Goo! Fans: Name your price.

Monday, October 12, 2009

Installing WinXP within Ubuntu. Wait, is that not allowed?
Awake early (relatively) on this Canadian Thanksgiving day. Getting some work done because none has been done thus far this weekend.

Thursday, October 01, 2009

The GameX and GameX Industry Summit is coming up soon. What fun! I wish I could go...

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

Wow. The Left4Dead deal on Steam is uber-tempting. Almost expecting a $5 Left4Dead with pre-order of Left4Dead2 (closer to release date).
I just thought of something that felt important but now I forget what it was. I hate when that happens. Oh. There goes the recycling truck.

Monday, September 28, 2009

Up late last night with my mind that would not shut off. Effectively a zombie today. I LOVE ZOMBES!

Saturday, September 19, 2009

When you're on the high seas and your crew throws a fit to head for the shore, whatcha gonna do?
Me wife got outta tha house 'afore'n I could talk Pirate to her. Blast me luck and grogginess.

Friday, September 18, 2009

Refactoring G2DP in a massive way. Stripped demo code from it. Now exists solely as a library. Learning from mistakes.
Just a reminder, tomorrow is Talk Like A Pirate Day. You still have time to catch up on Pirates Attack!

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Encouraging you, enthusiastically, to play "Time Fcuk".

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

I'll be the first to admit, I haven't (yet) put much thought into the levels. #alpha
w00t! Helicopter Ninja now has level transitions. Still have to create the end-game and menu plus a few more tweaks.
Talk Like a Pirate Day is coming! September 19, everyone. Why not check out "Pirates Attack!"

Monday, September 14, 2009

I picked "Best. Concert. Ever." at #PAX. Finally getting around to watching it.

Sunday, September 13, 2009

I've been playing Braid throughout the weekend. I'll just say: I enjoy it. I enjoy it for myself. Not because I'm supposed to. Great game.

Saturday, September 12, 2009

Everyone's favorite Helicopter Ninja gets a minor update. He's smaller and carries a sword.
Spent the last hour playing Braid. The parallax looks awesome, but I have a feeling that is done in 3D rather than layers.
I'm done writing my #PAX notes gathered from professional (and indie) game developers:
Hauled my office chair downstairs to use the bigscreen PC. Writing out my notes from PAX in blog form.

Friday, September 11, 2009

Ooh! Braid is only $5 this weekend. Methinks I should make a purchase... in the name of Research. And stuff. Oh! And celebration. Of work.
WTF! I haven't received texts since Saturday and now I'm getting a flood of them... ALL OF THEM since Saturday #telusfail

Thursday, September 10, 2009

I'm working. No-fooling honestly working. Gotta build up that stockpile of savings again.

Wednesday, September 09, 2009

Some Helicopter Ninja alpha linkage
The 7-day game I'm making is called "Helicopter Ninja". Details here:
Nice! Looks like I'm in the "50% ad revenue" bracket on GameJolt. Here's to making a little bit of monies.
Started to work on my first "made-in-7-days" game. I'll try to post the results this weekend, though I started on Tuesday.

Tuesday, September 08, 2009

I'm activating the KOTOR code that BioWare was giving #PAX attendees. Free KOTOR, everyone. Check your swag bags.
Listening to "Underbeard" by The Grammar Club. By Sunday, I was rocking my own Underbeard at #PAX09

Monday, September 07, 2009

Back home now from #PAX and it was a helluva time. Just looking through the photos. Will post to Flickr soon.

Friday, September 04, 2009

About to go wait in line before getting into the line-up room. Doors open officially at 10am.

Thursday, September 03, 2009

Met up with 5 other Canadians. First thing we talk about? The half-priced beer. Cheers all around.
Hanging at the Green Tortoise in Seattle. Meeting other Twitter Shitters. #PAX To my wife: Miss you. But still having fun :D
w00t w00t! 1 hour until I'm on the Greyhound to #PAX. The Seattle station is right next to the Grand Hyatt. Convenient badge pickup!

Drinking some sort of a Firetruck. Had Jager in it. Tasty. Tasty and effective. Shower and bedtime now. Bus leave in 9 hours.
Heading out on the #PAX journey, heading to Checkpoint A (Kelowna). Leaving from there tomorrow morning.

Tuesday, September 01, 2009

My (slightly silly) business cards are ready to pick up, in time for #PAX.
Back from Dentist. Taking care of your teeth through the year is like making tiny payments daily. You could just pay up once at the dentist!

Monday, August 31, 2009

On hold on the phone. They've got "The Cranberries" screaming in my ear :P

Sunday, August 30, 2009

Reading the tail end of the series of articles by @tinysubversions -> Effective Networking in the Game Industry
Hello, Sunday. You're pretty cool, like the day of the week that shows up late to the party and doesn't even care.

Saturday, August 29, 2009

In mere days I'll be heading to Seattle for PAX. Loading up my PSP with all the Pure Pwnage eps for the bus ride.

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Approx. 3 weeks until Fission Chips wraps up. It's not too late for you:
One of my gouramis got stuck in an ornamental castle. I got him out, but he's hurting something fierce :-S
The urge to get the Metroid Prime Trilogy Collectors Edition for the Wii is pretty intense. BDay present for the wife... right?

Monday, August 24, 2009

The Camera object is complete. Backdrop now plays nice with everyone.
Quote should be: "Reggie, I write HTML. Do you know what HTML is?"
"Of course I know what HTML-"
"If it's proprietary, I'm doing it wrong."

Sunday, August 23, 2009

That was a fun quote :) I'm reading "The App" here ->

Some last minute coding and writing before bed. Another small step for G2DP.
Spoke with my former employer. Still no work for those of use who were laid off. Continuing the job search (and game development).
Hating on the only job postings (Monster, Workopolis) being advertised by recruiting agents. Agents == my job search stigma
G'morning. Oh, shiny. Something of a short attention... Mmm, coffee.
